[Influence Series] How I wasted $43,300

still paying this debt off lol

(Read time: 2.5 minutes)

2 years ago, I realized I made a big mistake.

Like most of my friends growing up, I went to university. And like most people, I chose the wrong program.

Not because I did something like Art History, but because I didn’t choose my degree…

I graduated from a top 5 engineering program in Canada.

Learned a lot, made a ton of friends, and developed into a new person.

But the classes were brutal.

I did great in what I loved – math, statistics, philosophy…

But after 2-3 years of designing circuits, analyzing electrical signals, and building hardware, my heart wasn’t in it.

My brain followed my heart:

“Why the hell am I doing this…”

So why did I choose that degree?

At my high school, people who were good at math and science were supposed to go study engineering.

The engineering program was hard to get into, and had status attached to it among my peers.

That’s why I did it.

And that was Social Proof in action.

Social proof is the idea that people tend to follow the actions and decisions of others. ESPECIALLY when uncertain about what to do.

In my case:

  • I was heavily influenced by popular behaviors and beliefs in my high school and peer group

  • I wanted the social proof of being an engineer – to be seen as "smart"

Social proof is so powerful that I threw away years of time and tens of thousands of dollars.

Why Use Social Proof & How To Use It

The online space is riddled with scammers.

Did you get DM’d by the "Can I buy your Stripe account?" scam going around?

Guys like these ruin the game for us, and that's why social proof is important.

It shows people you can actually deliver on what you say, reduces the perceived risk of working with you, and proves you're someone your prospects can trust.

It gets your prospects off the fence and turns them into buyers.

3 simple ways to use social proof:

  1. Highlight your recent wins: Screenshot results you’ve been getting for clients and tweet it out.

  2. Do client interviews: Have your client walk through the transformation they had while receiving your service, and showcase some of the things you did together. Post it up on YouTube.

  3. Build case studies: Build a detailed case study of the results you got for a client and show off your expertise.

Speaking of which…

I recently helped a client make $20k in 7 days through their email list.

And in this video I reveal my playbook. Steal my strategy here:
